Costs and limits

How plans, Runtime Credits and limits fit together, and what happens when you reach one.

A plan for each account

Your personal account and each organization have a plan of their own. The plan sets how many computers and custom domains the account can have. It also sets each computer’s memory and storage, and the monthly Runtime Credits. See Plans and Runtime Credits. Plan prices are on Pricing.

Credits pay for awake time

A sleeping computer spends no Runtime Credits. While it’s awake, Rootsy measures the CPU, memory and disk it uses and charges that to your credits. An awake hour has a minimum charge, and a cap set by the plan. See Plans and Runtime Credits.

Anything that keeps a computer awake spends credits. That includes visitors, schedules, an open workspace and Claude Code at work. Backups, restores and Reset don’t count.

A monthly allowance

Credits arrive each month with the plan. Unused credits don’t roll over. Rootsy doesn’t sell extra credits, so more comes from the next month. Changing a paid plan isn’t available in the app today. To move to a larger plan, write to support@rootsy.io.

No plan’s allowance covers a computer awake all month. Rootsy suits software that sleeps between uses.

When you reach a limit

There’s no overage charge. When credits run out, Rootsy parks the account’s computers. Visitors get an unavailable page, and nothing is deleted. The computers come back when credits arrive. See Plans and Runtime Credits.

When a computer goes over its storage, its terminal, editor, uploads and MCP commands pause until it’s back under the limit. Its apps keep serving, and the Files window stays open so you can free space. Rootsy never deletes your files to make room. See Plans and Runtime Credits.

When a plan shrinks, the computers over the new limit go dormant. Their files stay, but you can’t open them until the plan has room again. See Plans and Runtime Credits.

When a plan ends, a personal account drops to smaller limits and gets no monthly credits. Its computers park once the leftover credits are spent. An organization’s computers all go dormant, and it gets no automatic or manual backups. Files stay either way, but a dormant or parked computer’s workspace doesn’t open. Older backups are deleted unless they’re pinned. Before a plan ends, download the files you need and pin the backups that matter. See Plans and Runtime Credits.

Limits on every plan

Some limits are the same on every plan, like request size and the number of schedules. Limits lists them. How long backups are kept depends on the plan. See Backups and Reset.

Cancel when you want

Cancel from Billing in the app. The plan runs to the end of the paid period. Canceling doesn’t delete your computers or files. See Plans and Runtime Credits.
