> Customer-visible changes to Rootsy by date, newest first: new features, changed behavior and fixes you would notice.

This page lists changes to Rootsy you would notice, newest first. Internal work isn't listed. Each date is when a change shipped.

## 2026-10-21

- The technical reference was checked against the app and rewritten. [Billing](https://rootsy.io/docs/reference/billing.md) lists the limits each plan enforces. [Limits](https://rootsy.io/docs/reference/limits.md), [Connect with MCP](https://rootsy.io/docs/reference/mcp.md) and [Security](https://rootsy.io/docs/reference/security.md) match the app as it runs today.

## 2026-10-20

- `run_command` takes `completion_mode: "check_once"`. A quick command can return its result in the same call. See [Connect with MCP](https://rootsy.io/docs/reference/mcp.md#run_command).
- Billing for an account without a plan points to the create dialog, where you pick a plan.

## 2026-10-19

- MCP clients can move one file at a time, up to 262,144 bytes, with `import_file`, `read_file_import` and `export_file`. The bytes arrive unchanged. Import takes files attached in ChatGPT. See [Connect with MCP](https://rootsy.io/docs/reference/mcp.md#move-files-in-and-out).
- The computer and custom domain limits follow the plan an account is on. [Billing](https://rootsy.io/docs/reference/billing.md#what-each-plan-includes) lists them.

## 2026-10-16

- Command results carry `output_info`, which states the output limits. Command and path limits are counted in UTF-8 bytes.
- `get_computer` reports `hosting`, which includes the request body limit for your apps. See [Connect with MCP](https://rootsy.io/docs/reference/mcp.md#read-accounts-and-computers).

## 2026-10-15

- MCP uses one permission, `rootsy:access`, in place of separate read and command permissions.

## 2026-10-14

- MCP clients can manage [schedules](https://rootsy.io/docs/reference/scheduled-tasks.md#manage-schedules-over-mcp) and [custom domains](https://rootsy.io/docs/reference/domains.md#manage-domains-over-mcp).

## 2026-10-13

- MCP clients can read a computer's details, and create, restart, reset and delete computers. See [Connect with MCP](https://rootsy.io/docs/reference/mcp.md).

## 2026-10-11

- MCP clients can run commands on a computer with three new tools, `run_command`, `read_command` and `cancel_command`. Commands run as the `dev` user in non-interactive bash. See [Connect with MCP](https://rootsy.io/docs/reference/mcp.md).

## 2026-10-06

- An open workspace tab no longer keeps a computer awake by itself. After 15 minutes without keyboard or pointer input, the workspace shows "Workspace paused while you were away". Move the pointer, press a key or click **Reconnect** to pick up where you left off. Unsaved Editor changes are kept.
- The computer previews on the Computers page no longer keep computers awake.

## 2026-10-05

- Downloading several items from one folder in the Files window gives you one zip named after the folder.
- Downloading from the Files window no longer stops **Open in editor** from working until you refresh.
- More names are reserved for new computer addresses, including sign-in and billing words and common mail and network hostnames.

## 2026-10-02

- Creating your first computer happens in one dialog. Name it, pick a plan and pay, and the computer starts building once the payment clears. Checkout resumes after a refresh without charging twice. See [Billing](https://rootsy.io/docs/reference/billing.md#choose-a-plan).
- Plans are Starter, Builder, Pro and Studio, billed monthly or annually, each with monthly Runtime Credits. See [Billing](https://rootsy.io/docs/reference/billing.md).
- Checkout accepts cards, Link, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

## 2026-10-01

- The Schedules window sets up recurring jobs. A schedule sends a signed `GET` or `POST` request to a path on your computer at the times you choose, in a time zone you pick, and keeps a history of each request. `rootsy schedules` manages them from the computer. See [Scheduled tasks](https://rootsy.io/docs/reference/scheduled-tasks.md).

## 2026-09-30

- Rootsy has an MCP server at `https://app.rootsy.io/mcp`. An MCP client signed in with your Rootsy account can list your accounts and computers.
- Personal settings has an **MCP access** section with a switch to pause every MCP connection on your account.

## 2026-09-25

- The dashboard calls everything a computer. The Computers page lives at `/me/computers` (and `/o/<organization>/computers`), and old links redirect.
- You can drag computers on the Computers page to reorder them.
- Going back to the computer list from a workspace keeps you in the organization you were in.

## 2026-09-16

- The product is now Rootsy. The dashboard is at `app.rootsy.io`, the workspace connects through `<name>.rootsy.io`, and each computer's address is `<name>.rtsy.dev`. Custom domains point at `connect.rtsy.dev`.

## 2026-09-14

- The command on each computer is now `rootsy`, for example `rootsy status`, `rootsy domains`, `rootsy preview refresh` and `rootsy keep-awake`. See [The rootsy command](https://rootsy.io/docs/reference/cli.md).

## 2026-09-11

- Account and billing emails come from `billing@mail.rootsy.io`. Replies go to `support@rootsy.io`.

## 2026-09-07

- The Backups window: manual and daily automatic backups, notes, pinning, and restore. A restore can first save a return point so you can undo it. How long backups are kept depends on your plan. See [Backups and Reset](https://rootsy.io/docs/reference/backups-and-reset.md).
- When a computer doesn't answer a visitor within 15 seconds, the visitor gets an "isn't responding" page with a retry hint, not a generic error after about two minutes.
- After a Reset, the computer reports ready only once your app is serving again.
- A computer stuck while deleting offers **Delete** again and is cleaned up automatically.

## 2026-09-04

- Your own programs can no longer take down the Terminal, Editor or Files window by using up memory or starting too many processes. The Editor has its own memory cap, so a runaway extension can't freeze it.
- The status shows **Site down** when your app isn't answering but the computer is fine, and visitors see a page that says so.

## 2026-08-31

- The Domains window shows verification progress live as DNS checks run, with clearer reasons when a check fails.
- A computer that stops responding is restarted automatically, a limited number of times.

## 2026-08-26

- Computer creation is limited per rolling 24 hours, counting computers you've deleted. A refused create says when you can try again.

## 2026-08-24

- A computer stays awake while Claude Code is working on a request.
- `rootsy keep-awake -- <command>` keeps the computer awake until the command exits. Use it for long jobs. See [Jobs](https://rootsy.io/docs/reference/jobs.md).
- Organizations manage their own billing from their Billing page.
- Reset stops the running terminal session and Claude Code before restoring the computer.

## 2026-08-21

- Organizations share computers and billing among members. Invite members by email. Members can leave or be removed. Each organization has its own subscription. See [Organizations](https://rootsy.io/docs/reference/organizations.md).
