# Your first project

> Create a computer, sign in to Claude Code with your own account, and put a first version online.

## Get an account

Sign-up is invitation-only during the alpha. To ask for access, write to support@rootsy.io. Once you're invited, open the link in the invitation email to create your account. Check your spam folder if it doesn't arrive.

## Create a computer

Create a computer from the dashboard and give it a name. The name becomes its address, `https://<name>.rtsy.dev`. You choose a plan when you create your first computer, and the dialog can offer a trial. See [Plans and Runtime Credits](https://rootsy.io/docs/reference/billing.md#choose-a-plan).

## Start your AI

Open the computer's workspace. The terminal opens on the `rootsy welcome` guide. Start Claude Code from there, or type `claude`.

Sign in with your own Claude account. The sign-in runs between your browser and claude.ai. Claude Code stores its token on the computer's disk. Rootsy doesn't read or log it. See [Security](https://rootsy.io/docs/reference/security.md#your-claude-account).

## Bring what you have

Have a project already? Clone it from any git host in the terminal, or upload it in the **Files** window. [Your computer](https://rootsy.io/docs/reference/computer.md#files-in-and-out) covers moving files in.

## Ask for something small

Give Claude Code a concrete brief. Say who it's for and what they need to do first. Leave the rest for later.

```text
Build a request desk for our office.
Each request has a title, an owner and a status.
Use sample data, and show it to me in the Preview.
```

Claude Code can point the workspace's Preview window at a page and refresh it with `rootsy preview`. See [Preview and testing](https://rootsy.io/docs/reference/preview-and-testing.md).

## Put it online

The Preview shows the same app visitors get at your address. Send the address to someone and they can open it. Rootsy puts no login in front of it, so add one before you share anything private. [Protect an app](https://rootsy.io/docs/reference/protect-an-app.md) shows how.

When it's ready for a real name, connect a domain you own with a CNAME record. See [Addresses and custom domains](https://rootsy.io/docs/reference/domains.md#connect-a-custom-domain).

## Keep a way back

Before a risky change, create a backup in the **Backups** window. Rootsy also takes automatic backups. See [Backups and Reset](https://rootsy.io/docs/reference/backups-and-reset.md).

Push your code to a git remote you control as well. Backups stay with the computer, so a remote is your copy elsewhere.
